What is good my fellow Musicians, Producers, Young Artists, Rappers, Home Studios, Singers, Songwriters, and Beat Makers alike. I am back with yet another resource to challenge your growth.
We all have been there before. Maybe just completed a project, have the DAW open to a blank project and staring at the blank screen with a blank mind... It happens to the best of us. Here's what I do to deal with this loss of inspiration:
A Classic Case of Writer's Block:
This is what you call "A Classic Case of Writer's Block."
You're sitting in front of your computer screen, maybe you're staring down at your notebook, pencil in hand... You start doodling, hoping something will come to you.
You Start Writing Every Word you Can think of:
Let's face it... Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you're a beast when it comes to coming up with great content or beats or lyrics, but there is always at least one moment when we all draw a blank.
And you can't deny, we've all done what Ron Swanson has done...
But what if I told you, dealing with a loss of inspiration is simple, but it requires sacrifice. Can you guess what I'm going to say?
Change of Scenery:
I thought this GIF would bring you some amusement and inspiration.
Every time I lose my inspiration and run into writer's block, I always feel refreshed after getting a change of scenery. Sometimes this means simply taking a 10 minute break from mixing a song and getting a snack. Other times this means taking a walk and going outside to be mindful of my environment. Often, I will read a page in a book I am currently reading or I will pack all my gear and drive to a local coffee shop to hang out for a bit.
Many times I either won't even work on the project or I will get the most work done with this change of scenery. To take it to the extreme, sometimes I will take time to change the complete arrangement of the room I normally work in - this is not for everybody, but it seems to give me a boost of energy and ideas.
I follow other musicians and mixing engineers, so it helps to keep up those creative juices. Recently, I created a Song Creation Guide for anyone interested or needs help getting their songs off the ground. Download this guide for yourself. I hope it helps you break out of that Classic Case of Writer's Block.
