What is good my fellow Musicians, Producers, Young Artists, Rappers, Home Studios, Singers, Songwriters, and Beat Makers alike. I am back with yet another resource to challenge your growth.
This topic hits pretty deep for me. Why? Well, there have only been a few people that have support my music dreams earlier on in life and many others have considered it almost a joke - "How can you make a living doing that? How come you don't just get a normal job, make a lot of money and do music on the side? Why do you have to pursue it so intently? I don't care about your music..."
Have you heard these phrases too?
I'm going to be quite frank in an earnest world right now:
90% of the people you know right now don't have the guts to try something outside of their comfort zone - steady income, risk-free lifestyle, life-long surface friends, & no chance for failure...
These people don't care about your dreams - or their own for that matter. Based on my personal experience, they will never go out of their way to support your dreams, will try to occupy your time aka distract you so achieving your dream is impossible, and honestly, it's not fun to be around people that don't either have the desire for more or don't have the drive to do more...
In some cases, they were told they ought to give up on their dreams, so they did. But they chose to do that. You have a choice not to.
I wrote another article a while back talking about friendships and how to approach burning bridges because quite frankly, it has to be done sometimes. Check that article out here.
But you have a choice, no matter how toxic or draining your environment is. Get out... You don't have to burn every bridge - I don't recommend it - but sometimes a little freshness, a little new, a little chase is enough to liven your inspiration. Because God knows, it's between you and Him what you're life should look like...
I went through a long season of depression in early 2017.
My closest friends would never call or text me back, my current friends were the same way, my job at the time was killing my compassion & desire to care about life so I quit, I had little money coming in but a lot saved up, & I had this drive to do something - but I couldn't because no one believed in me...
I am a man of faith, so over time, prayerfully surrendering my circumstances as well as vision for music, a plan I had created back in 2013 came into my mind... I rejected the idea & wallowed.
More time passed & I would get this drive where "I just needed to do something..."
I was contemplating ways I could enter construction and make a lot of money there, but then my future and family kept coming into mind. Ok, I will go back to get a master's degree, then money came into my mind - or the lack thereof. Ok, I guess I'll write some rhymes - which comes naturally for me & I wrote about how I was feeling.
A spark created a fire that turned wild. In that season, I learned more about music than I had never even knew before, more than I had learned from my college degree in counseling... Ironically.
I realized, I am different... Music really makes me come alive...
And so, the plan from 2013 came back into my mind... AND I PURSUED IT RELENTLESSLY!

Check it out...
I had created a website - actually 2 - before that were utter failures. I was afraid to do it again.
I had tried a blog before - actually 2 - that were utter failures. I was afraid to do it again.
I had tried connecting in community - it has always been an utter failure for me.
I had tried to share my passion for music - it has either always been shut down or manipulated...
But then, I took a leap of faith...
I started an Instagram - which failed before for me too - but this time, I had the encouragement of my wife. I started implementing my plan and quit hanging out with the negative people in my life. I was impressed because the success I was seeing - anything more than 1 follower was good with me - wasn't really anything I could take credit for...
In fact, I give the credit to all of my followers & supporters...
It took a little fearlessness & willingness to share with the world, expect nothing, & care nada about what other people think of me - and this vision found the others who are interested in the same thing.
And that is how I found Young Artist Society...
I've been doing music my whole life, but once I started actually stepping out and caring not about the numbers and the success, the numbers and so called success came - but it's hard! Everyday, I face millions of challenges, but I love it... This is my DREAM!
And that's my advice for today.
How do you plan your own road to success?
You just do it.
