What is good my fellow Musicians, Producers, Young Artists, Rappers, Home Studios, Singers, Songwriters, and Beat Makers alike. I am back with yet another resource to challenge your growth.
As many of you know, I recently was in the middle of releasing my EP Change of Heart on iTunes, Spotify, and other online music services. Unfortunately, the deadline was not met due to some common setbacks...
There are tons of examples, traffic being the most common. We've all been sitting in traffic, dreaming about where we'd rather be or thinking about where we're going, growing impatient and irritable with everything and everyone around us...
I'll admit, since I'm not perfect, I started experiencing these symptoms. I had done everything required of me, triple checked my details, submitted my EP to the distributor and sat back expecting the best.
I couldn't have been more wrong. I received an email explaining the release wouldn't be distributed as I expected. Apparently there were a few things that would setback my release including details related to featuring artists and the format the distributor wanted each in track to be in. I resubmitted my information, following all the instructions, but received another email stating the exact same thing...
You guessed it; I repeated the process... This has tied my EP up from being released as I intended and I was not happy to repeat it a third time. It seemed as if someone had just deleted the details I had updated each time and kept sending it back to me because they didn't want to handle it...
Do you ever feel like the guy in the GIF above?
Life has setbacks. They happen. You get hit... hard... sometimes. Life is full of setbacks - and many other things. And that's the point; everything makes you stronger, faster, better. When you know that setbacks happen and expect them, this can change the whole game for you.
I didn't anticipate my setback, but I know what I ought to do moving forward from this one. Here's a list of things that help me and may help you as setbacks come our way:
- Plan ahead - planning ahead is the best way to not be negatively affected by setbacks.
- Consider alternatives - when one route doesn't work out, try another one.
- Delegate - people care about people who care about people. Get help when you need it.
- Communicate - consider resolutions to the issue. Present them to your team.
- Focus - stay focused on the bigger picture. Don't get so caught up on the little things.
